Before Hollywood made Velociraptor a household name, the real inspiration for those pack-hunting, claw-slashing dinos was Deinonychus antirrhopus.
Discovered in the 1960s, this Early Cretaceous predator (about 3.5 meters long) helped spark the “dinosaur renaissance,” proving raptors were agile, intelligent, and built for coordinated hunting. Armed with a sickle-shaped claw on each foot and likely covered in feathers, Deinonychus was less lumbering lizard and more nightmare turkey with strategy.
